"Yes We Can"

Join Organizing for America, the Democratic Party and other local volunteers as we gather at the St. Johns Democratic Headquarters on August 4th to celebrate President Obama's 49th Birthday.  What a great occasion to make telephone calls to ensure that our friends and neighbors have the opportunity to get involved and to find out the next steps that will make a difference in the upcoming 2010 elections.

Be sure to wear your Obama shirt, cap, or pin.  If you can, bring your cell phone and charger to supplement the three telephone lines at headquarters.  Refreshments will be available.

Candidate Forum 

The League of Women Voters will be sponsoring the second of two Candidate Forums at the St. Johns County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine, FL 32084, with the County Commission candidates (all Republican) on Wednesday, August 4th from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.  Because these candidates do not have opposition from another party or write-in candidates, the primary for the County Commissions will be a Universal Primary and everyone will be voting for them during the Primary Election.

 

Everyone is invited to join the St. Johns County Democratic Party during the First Friday Art Walk at our headquarters, located at 142B King St. in St. Augustine.  Our office is located on the side of the building behind Margrieta's Quilt Shop.

Join us for refreshments and good conversation during this popular St. Augustine event or stop by and say hello any weekday afternoon when you are in town.

Chamber of Commerce 

You are invited to participate in the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce's Politics in St. Johns, August 3, 5, 10 and 12. As a voter, this event will provide you the chance to interface with candidates who will be on the ballot in St. Johns Couny.

Politics in St. Johns consists of four events held throughout St. Johns County. All of the events are free to attend and are open to the public. The purpose is to bring candidates for all local offices, State House and Senate seats, and the U.S. Congress seat in our county to the businesses and citizens of St. Johns County. The event is a meet-and-greet format instead of formal debates and speeches, which allows attendees to educate themselves and make their own judgments about the candidates.

 In August, our Area Business Councils will host events in their backyards, giving all of our members and the public ample opportunity to come out and meet the candidates:

When the candidtes register they will be requested to answer a few questions. These answers will be published in the Politics in St. Johns: Guide to the Candidates that will be distributed at the events.

August meeting cancelled

The St. Augustine Democratic Club that normally meets on the second Tuesday of each month will not take place in August.  Their regular meeting place s the the Conference Room of the St. Augustine Record (entrance from SR 207 side of building) at 7:00 PM.  The building is located at the intersection of SR 312 and SR 207.

The Decision 2010: Before you Vote Series...

WJXT Jacksonville will air a televised debate on Tuesday evening, August 10th at 8:00 PM between the two Democratic Candidates for US Senate from Florida - Jeff Greene and Kendrick Meek.

Then on Wednesday evening, August 11th at 8:00 PM, WJXT will also air a televised debate between the two Republican Candidates for Governor - Bill McCollum and Rick Scott.  

Each debate will last one hour and the Debate Partners include: Florida Press Association and Leadership Florida through the cooperation of Trusted Choice, NOVA Southeastern University, the Bob Graham Center, AARP, The Claude Pepper Foundation and Center, and the Florida League of Mayors, Inc.
