Second Annual Environmental Challenge Day

The "March for Future Generations: Break Free From Fossil Fuels" was held on Sunday, May 15th organized by the Environmental Youth Council, who had been meeting weekly to make this a great event. Be sure to watch the FirstCoast.TV recap of the event.

You are invited to participate in the Second Annual Environmental Challenge Day on Saturday, April 9, 9:00-4:00. at the Willie Galimore Center in Lincolnville.
The organizers have announced that this year's event will be hosted by a coalition of sponsors which include:
St. Johns County Democratic Party, Jane West Law, Southern Horticulture,
Herbie Wiles Insurance, Hyundai of St. Augustine, Oceana,
Marineland Dolphin Adventure, South Ponte Vedra Beach Turtle Patrol,
Sierra Club of Northeast Florida, Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center,
Democratic Women's Club, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of St. Augustine,
and Media Sponsor: FirstCoast.TV.
The Food Vendor will be: Oyster Creek Eatery.
This event offers activities both inside and outside of the Galimore Center in Lincolnville.
During the course of the day, nine speakers will present a number of topics with an environmental theme indoors in the large meeting room.

9:30 ; Joan Kramer - "Problems Facing Our Favorite Pollinators and What You Can Do To Help Them" Joan is a member of the St. Johns County Beekeepers Association.
10:00 : Christopher Bibbs : "The Landscape of Mosquito Control" Chris is an Educational Specialist for the Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County
10:30 : Erin Handy : "A Dead Whale Is A Dead Whale : The Search For Oil And Gas Off Florida's Coast" Erin is a campaign organizer for the international environmental organization Oceana. She is a Climate Reality Leadership Corps certified speaker.
11:00 : Hunter Miller : "The Importance Of Grassroots Movements To Affect Change On A Local And Global Scale." Hunter is a leader of the Environmental Youth Council.
11:30 : Bill Hamilton : "Climate Change And Local Implications" Bill is a founding member of the Environmental Youth Council, and owner of Southern Horticulture.

1:00 : Neil Armingeon : "The Matanzas River: Twenty-three Miles of History, Culture, Ecology and Magic" Neil is the Matanzas River Keeper
1:30 : Jane West : "Uncontrolled Growth In St. Johns County - A Citizen's Toolbox On How to Protect What's Left" Jane is a local environmental lawyer.
2:00 : Allen Tilley : "Global Warming's News For Northeast Florida" Allen is a retired UNF English Professor and serves on the Northeast Florida Group of the Sierra Club's Executive Committee.
2:30 : Tom Larson : "Energy and Climate Action" Tom is Group, Chapter and Committee Leader for the Northeast Florida Group of the Sierra Club.
In a separate room, local artists and authors will display and offer for sale: books, photography, paintings and art work with an environmental theme. The artists include:
Jean Langlie, Kathy Carbone, Ivi Frick, Sharon Greenlaw, Kathleen Trued, Anita Vigara, Anya Wilson, and Diane Abell
There will be about 30 informational and product vendors outdoors. Some will offer family-friendly entertainment, live music, face-painting and non-helium balloon art. Docents from the Whitney Lab will bring their "Traveling Zoo", which is fascinating for children of all ages. Marineland will have sea life artifacts on display and present information about their summer program for kids. There will be bee hives and honey, books and information about bats, recycling information, pottery, jewelry, and much, much more. (See the list below of vendors)
Food and drinks will be available for sale throughout the day by Oyster Creek Eatery.
