Anastasia Mosquito Control District, Seat 2

As a commissioner on the Board of the Anastasia Mosquito Control District since my first election in 2006, I have chosen to once more become a candidate for this position in order to continue the progress that has been made with AMCD.  Some highlights include:
  • Protection of the environment by moving to alternative pesticide treatments to both reduce chemical use and protect non-target species.
  • Financial Responsibility in order to pay for both current and future projects.  Because of applied research grants, we have received over $1.5M, in addition to equipment at no cost to AMCD. We currently have a $2.2M reserve to meet current and future needs.   We repealed the purchase of a $1.8M executive helicopter not appropriate for mosquito control during my first term.  Currently, the board is considering the purchase of a helicopter from another mosquito district with all the FAA, Homeland Security certifications and equipment necessary to provide aerial services.
  • Construction of and move to new and appropriate facilities next to the St. Johns County Emergency Center.  This replaced the original facilities on Anastasia Island.  Recently completed are a new garage and state-of-the-art administrative building.  This year will see the completion of a dormitory for interns as well as a helicopter pad.
  • Our education program included 26 schools in 2016 and 34 public outreach programs reached over 13,000 people. The AMCD FaceBook page, launched in 2007, has also increased its presence.  Following Hurricane  Irma, the FaceBook posts reached over 17,000 residents.
  • With board approval, AMCD became an American Mosquito Control Association Center for Disease Control Contract Training. AMCD is recognized not only locally, but internationally as a result of the leadership of Dr.Rui-De Xue, Director since 2003
And don’t forget to vote for Jeanne Moeller, candidate for AMCD, seat 2!

Did you know mosquitoes kill more humans than any other animal in the world? As your Mosquito Control Commissioner, my goal would be to ensure we allocate funds to continue preventing outbreaks, research more environmentally friendly ways of doing so, and keep the way of life we are accustomed to, one free from viruses like Zika.. I want to make sure every tax payer knows the terrific job the Mosquito District does and how hard they work they work to keep us safe and healthy. The District and their technicians are on the front lines, protecting us from potentially life threatening illnesses.

My professional background is in customer service and business management. Locally, I spent 6 years working as a shift manager for Starbucks, managing budgets, staff, and improving store efficiency. The different positions I have held in my customer service and management career have given me a well-rounded experience with public-facing positions. As your Mosquito Control Commissioner, I want to ensure that every tax payer and visitor to St. Johns County can enjoy the great outdoors without the worry of contracting a potentially life-threatening illness. My business manager experience and positive attitude will benefit our District for the betterment of St. Johns County. Currently, I serve on State Board of a non-profit organization and am familiar with Board procedures and rules.

Lastly, I believe that education is the key cost saving component for the budget. The more we educate residents on what they can do to be better advocates for themselves, the less tax payer money will need to be spent reducing mosquito populations. Prevention is the best defense.
