As Democrats We Seek
What About Values?
We believe that political party labels are the best indicator of how a candidate will perform once elected to office. The self applied candidate label of "Democrat" or "Republican" describes basic principals of governing that the candidate has chosen to associate themselves with. Those who advocate voting for the "person not the party" ignore the fact that a Democrat and Republican believe in different principals and will likely vote in accordance with those principals more often that not.
Choosing the "best candidate" unavoidably includes deciding how each candidate will likely vote on issues and values that are important to you. It is mistake to believe that a candidate you would most like to enjoy a beer with will actually represent you and your values when they enact legislation that impacts your lives. That kind of logic got us eight years of George Bush -- and we all know how badly that turned out! It is also a mistake to accept the argument that your vote or who is elected really doesn't matter. Can you honestly say that our nation -- indeed the world -- would not be a different and better place had Al Gore or John Kerry been elected President?
As Democrats we hold certain values. In many cases republicans practice or hold values that are materially different. When deciding how to vote, do so based on the values and issues that are important to you. Remember candidates packaged by their handlers as a "strong leader" may in fact be a "stubborn", "intransigent," ideological leader. A so called "compassionate leader" may not be compassionate with those that actually need some compassion and a "truthful leader" may manipulate truth to satisfy their own narrow ideological agenda.

- Respect for the diversity of our citizens and the inalienable rights of each.
- A moral and just society based upon deeds not just hollow words or empty campaign promises.
- A Judicial System free of ideological influence from the right or the left.
- A Strong National Defense -- and honesty from our leaders in its pursuit.
- Real Homeland Security -- including our ports and other vulnerable sites.
- Restored stature among our friends and allies, good citizenship throughout the world and an end to "cowboy" diplomacy".
- A well funded and high quality Public Education for all who seek it
- High Quality and Affordable Health Care for all our citizens.
- Responsible and Honest Environmental Stewardship. Global warming is real, and corporate polluters should not be writing our regulations.
- Protecting and Improving Social Security -- not privatization.
- Preserving and Improving Medicare
- A Fair, Equitable and Progressive Tax Code.
- A Woman's Right to Self Determination.
- Protecting the Bill of Rights including the Second Amendment with sensible Gun Legislation to reduce and prevent Inappropriate or Illegal Use of Firearms
